Archie is hopefully heading for what promises to
be a life changing operation. Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy.

Operation Archie
Currently Archie can't walk, he finds sitting on the floor difficult and he can't stand up unless he uses a piece of furniture to pull himself up, primarily because his legs are so extremely stiff. Archie has Cerebral Palsy due to birth Asphyxia. There is an operation called Selective Dorsal rhizotomy, where some of the sensory nerves in the spinal cord are cut, which will permanently reduce his stiffness. According to Dr Park, who pioneered the procedure, Archie will be able to walk unaided in all environments if he were to have the operation and in addition, he will also need surgery to lengthen his hamstring and calf muscles. It's not an instantaneous fix, Archie will then need intensive physiotherapy for 2 years following SDR. Unfortunately the operations are very expensive so we are hoping to raise in the region of £50,000.
